All of my work, cover art, blurbs, snippets, letters, and blogs have all been produced with my own hand, While I’m sure that AI (Artificial Intelligence) has its practical applications, producing anything with my name on it surely isn’t. I put a lot of hard work into my craft, sacrificed flashy images to maintain the integrity of my product, and I’ve been very vocal about how I do not agree with AI being used for creative works of fiction.
To me, the author gives the stories life, and personality. Surely you’ve been scrolling on TikTok, Facbook, or Instagram, and come across a story being read by a robotic voice, over screen grabs of someone playing Subway Surfers. Those stories have no life, they have no soul, and they have no humanity. That’s where I come in. Authors like myself add the life to those works, to have a human perspective for you to relate to. That’s why I was so against AI being used in film, because expression is a uniquely human contribution to arts & culture. If the select few could generate mass gratification, then the humanity is taken out, the entire purpose of human experience is unecessary. I’m not OK with that.
So, without further ado, here is my statement on AI in regard to my work:
Please consider this a formal & unyielding notification that no part of my body of work is to be used for the development, or cultivation, of artificial intelligence. This body of work includes, but is not limited to: my novels, my blogs, my short stories, my website, my marketing materials, my flash fiction, my contributions to other publications–if those publications feel that their body of work needs to fuel the AI machine, please consider our working relationship over, effective now–this includes any work, past or present. The style that is found in my work, in my stories, on my website, or uniquely my own, and I intend to keep it that way.
